The New AI Wave Meets the Old GTM Guard | RevvedUp Weekly

A reality check on AI tools, plus why consolidation might be the new innovation for aging unicorns.

Hi ,

This week, we’ll focus on a couple of big news items from the wider market.

Firstly, GPT-5 just arrived! There’s a big emphasis on its agency and coding ability, advanced reasoning, reduced hallucinations (so more reliable) and also removing the complexity of choosing which model to use when in their interface.

It’s still rolling out to users right now, but as always, you can’t always blindly believe the hype. Take for example this HR Tech business, who immediately switched to the model as a test, only to see their conversion rates drop by 50%!

The point? Use any consumer-facing product with caution when trying to drive enterprise results - often these foundational models still need a huge amount of guardrails, customisation and context to actually deliver strong, consistent results.

And secondly, two ‘old school’ unicorns from the last decade of GTM innovation - (Clari and Salesloft) - have announced they’re merging to combine forces.

Whilst they are of course positioning this as a good thing, it shows two underlying challenges that go beyond these particular companies.

The first is that the speed to innovate for any company that isn’t AI-native is proving far harder than they would like. In this case, innovation is beating distribution. The new wave is clearly winning.

And secondly, the market is demanding further consolidation, moving away from dozens of point-solutions that create a Frankenstein tech stack, to one where clarity replaces chaos through platforms that handle integrated workflows.

As always, lots of change taking place!

If you’re keen to stay ahead of the innovation curve in go-to-market, we’re here to help.

Weekly quote to ponder

This week’s featured podcast is The Gutter Growth Podcast: Is Email Marketing Dead?

What if the most overlooked marketing channel in your business wasn’t dead—it was just being used wrong?

In this episode, Prolific Brand Design’s Zac Garside joins host Tim to dismantle the myth that email marketing no longer works. With years of experience helping home service businesses fill their job boards through strategic branding and simple, high-converting email campaigns, Zac explains why your inbox might be the most valuable real estate you own.

If you're tired of social media crickets and ad costs climbing, this conversation is your wake-up call to revisit the tool you've already got—and probably underuse.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Avoid the spam folder and land in inboxes with plain-text emails that look like they came from a friend

  • Build a curated, high-response list (and stop emailing dead contacts)

  • Use “story from the field,” “myth-buster,” and urgency-driven emails that actually get replies

  • Warm up your list the right way—without tanking your reputation

  • Leverage branding and email together to dominate your local market

If you’ve ever thought, “email’s outdated,” this episode will change your mind—and maybe your revenue.
