Proven Factors That Make the Difference Between Silence and Sales

Hi ,

Does cold outreach actually work?

The simple answer is that it works well for some, and not for others...hence you see the conflicting viewpoints from folks all the time.

But what are the factors that impact the likelihood of success? I'd break it into 3 parts:

Part 1: Are you running multichannel campaigns? e.g.

  • Email

  • LinkedIn

  • Ads retargeting

  • Cold‑call

  • Direct Mail

If you run cold email alone w/ no other support, you'll get less traction than warming up lists with well targeted ads, following up w/ calls etc. Basic common sense really.

Part 2 is the company context:

  • Do you have good brand awareness in the market?

  • Is there genuine ICP clarity based on actual data?

  • What size of company are you prospecting to? FTSE 100 typically harder than an SME.

  • Seniority of Persona you're targeting - are they the CEO or an IC? Again, more senior people are often more difficult due to volume of others targeting them.

  • Honestly, just how competitive is your market and how differentiated is your solution?

  • How big is your market?

  • How senior is the person sending the outreach? If they're the CEO with industry credibility, it'll cut through better than a grad SDR

  • Offer strength. Are you trying to book in a 30 minute straight away, or are you offering something of inherent value to the recipient like an invite to a VIP dinnert?

  • Strength of Social Proof you can offer

Part 3, you've got some of the core pieces:

  • Is the email content built on deep research and understanding of the individual and company you're reaching out to?

  • Is the copy actually good? Well written, provocative/bold, offering a unique PoV or some inherent value/insights?

  • Are you building good quality lists with recently enriched and validated contact info?

  • Are you warming up secondary domains properly and maintaining their health?

  • Do you have other deliverability checks and optimisations in place (e.g. smart servers, inbox matching)?

  • Are you keeping volume levels per inbox and domain to a recommended level?

  • Are you tracking if email outreach triggers indirect actions like web visits or inbound activities even if the individual you reached out doesn't book in a meeting directly?

Need some help or advice in any of these areas, or want to utilise an all-in-one ABM tool to cut through the noise and deliver better results?
